Make.Shift serves to engage the Bellingham community with all ages art and music. Started in 2008, we found a home in our current space at 306 Flora in 2011. The goal was to no longer have to fight obstacles but rather to create opportunities for artists. From there we have been able to support artists and musicians by providing affordable studios for them to create in. We host monthly art walks in our gallery and weekly concerts in our basement.
In 2013, with the help of the community, Make.Shift was able to install two fire exits in our basement concert space. These exits and our “no booze, no drugs, no jerks” policy has allowed us to offer a safer space for all ages to enjoy art and music.
In August of 2016 KZAX 94.9 LPFM was born, giving us one more tool for the community to express themselves and inform one another. All of this hard work has only been possible by generous donations from community members, volunteers, studio tenants and our gracious business sponsors. We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your support you have given us these past 9 years. 2017 is off to a great run and we are excited about all we have to offer you at Make.Shift.

Make.Shift is a maker’s space located in the heart of Bellingham’s arts district supporting artists and bands by providing 21 studios, an award-winning gallery, a live music performance space and a low-power radio station KZAX 94.9. We are an all-ages space dedicated to a policy of no drugs, no jerks, no booze.
