Meet The Gallery Jury: Hannah Lewis

  • What do you do for work?

I’m currently attempting to make a living by selling my art (mostly on Instagram @ bangs_lewis).

  • Do you make art? If so, what kind of art do you make and what would you say your style is?

Yes, I do! I’ve always done a variety of different types of art and used different mediums. In the past I have done a lot of figure painting using watercolors or oil. But recently I have been painting abstract patterns or fruit and collaging with them.

  • What is your past experience with Make.Shift?

I’m currently one of the gallery interns at Make.Shift. Before I started this position last April I hadn’t had much experience with Make.Shift, I just knew that it was a cool and accepting art space.

  • What is it like to be involved with Make.Shift?

It’s great! Make.Shift is filled with kind, accepting, and creative people, which is an amazing type of community to be involved in.

  • What do you think Make.Shift’s style is?

I think of Make.Shift as a younger and more alternative space compared to other galleries.

  • What do you think Make.Shift’s place in the community is?

I see Make.Shift as a space that is oriented around all types of art of course, but also around inclusivity: all ages, all genders, all races, and NO jerks. Not sure where that puts them in the community, but it feels very important to have a space like that, especially an artistic space.

  • What qualities entice you when viewing art?

I personally love contemporary art. Art that pushes boundaries and that is like nothing that I’ve seen before catches my eye the most. I also can never say no to bright beautiful colors.
