Make.Shift News 4.18.17

Greetings Make.Shifters and welcome to our newly launched website! Thanks to Cameron Jennings Design we have a beautiful new place where you can find information on upcoming Make.Shift events and learn more about our mission as a 501(c)(3) non-profit all-ages space! We’d like to thank all our tenants, volunteers, partners and sponsors for their continued support as we launched into this new year and beyond. We couldn’t do this without you! We’ll be posting regularly to keep you updated on what’s happening each month and new ways to get involved.

Our low-power FM station KZAX 94.9 is up and running! With our new Station Manager Katie Gray at the helm and support from Program Director Forrest Camire, who has helped see this project through since the beginning, KZAX features regular weekly news and music programming. KZAX can be streamed online at tunein.com/radio/KZAX-LP-949-s261743/ .

Our new Gallery Director Jessyca Murphy hosts Marilyn Montufar’s beautiful photo exhibition “Capturing Community on the Road” this month, an ongoing photo essay with an emphasis on sharing stories about individuals who are underrepresented in mainstream culture and the arts. The Gallery Committee has also been working hard to curate Kids Art Walk in May showcasing art inspired by heroes and villains. Capes and costumes encouraged!

Downstairs on the Make.Shift stage we will be hosting Round Four of the Battle of the Bands competition in partnership with WWU’s Underground Coffeehouse featuring Maddy Smith, We Won’t Leave and Step Dads who will compete for a spot in the final showcase at Western’s Viking Union. The winner of the final round will go on to play Lawnstock on campus! On Saturday, April 22, Retirement takes the stage to launch their new EP with Super Projection, Kuvoza, and Joel K. of the band Alaska. Be sure to tune into KUGS 89.3 for a chance to win two spots on the guest list!

Interested in becoming a Make.Shift volunteer? Our next volunteer orientation is Tuesday, April 25th at 4 p.m..
